What Is Ballinger Known For?

Ballinger was originally called Hutchins City. The city’s name was changed to honor Judge William Pitt Ballinger who was also a Galveston attorney and stockholder of the Gulf, Colorado, and Santa Fe Railways. It is located at the point where the Colorado River and Elm Creek converge, which makes for some beautiful natural landscapes. It was established as a town, as were so many other towns in the West, due to the railroad expansion. Due to its proximity to a great source of water, it was selected as the railroad terminal for the Gulf, Colorado, and Santa Fe Railways.
