What Is Big Spring Known For?

Big Spring is known as the crossroads of West Texas and is named after the big spring that formed from the Colorado River. The early days of the town were rowdy, which created the need for large numbers of Texas Rangers to move in. In fact, the town census of 1880 shows that Texas Rangers outnumbered the citizens. Big Spring was also a bustling hub for the Texas and Pacific Railway as large quantities of cattle, buffalo, and more were transported back east.
